After his one stage show and three TV shows in December 1959, Gene visited France and Germany. He came back to the UK for his first long tour in Europe. He started on January 6 1960 at Guilford Odeon and finished on January 17 at Slough Adelphi. He was backed by a band named The Rockets. The pictures below were taken at the 6th date in Kingston Granada Theatre. An excellent review of that show was written by Adrian Owlett both in Britt Hagarty's book The Day The World Turned Blue (page 125 with a picture) and in Susan Vanhecke's book Race with The Devil (page 121), it starts like this : "All the lights had gone out in the Granada in Kingston. He could hear the heavy curtains being drawn back from the stage and then a gloriously high, clear voice singing, ...Weeell...."The pictures are from my archives, but were supplied to me in the 60's either by Harry Dodds (president of Gene's fanclub at the time) or Adrian Owlett who did so much for Gene and his fans.
