The 2 years old Yahoo group of GINNY WRIGHT can be found on: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/rumine Ginny is a very close penfriend and discovered me as her biggest English fan. She is one of the very few who worked with legends like Elvis and Jim Reeves, who she made a duet with in the year Elvis made the custom disc at Sun. Her site contains 100s of photos many of them of her as a child growing up in Georgia. I discovered Ginny in 1985 via the German LP releases and staked a claim on her Her CDs can be ordered through her website, which already has famous names on it like Dulcie Younger and the Tatters...who also have a yahoo groups as well as their own site. Through Ginny's site we were able to discover the whereabouts of Tom Tall her most consistent \ duet partner and thus I was able to send him complimentary copies. RE: Party Doll - What a singer and what a song to be introduced to the world by. Both were excellent.... My favorite ended up to be Storm Clouds by Lt. Knox, but I can remember more of my childhood with the song Party Doll. I even remember the dj's taking it off the air because it being a little risque. That made it sell even more in my neighborhood. We got curious and had to find out what it was all about. - edbayes@cox.net

Hi there, You may have heard the Stray Cats have reformed and are currently preparing for a tour across Europe in July 2004. I have started a petition to try and get the Stray Cats to come to Australia and play some live shows. By creating this petition, we hope to convince the Australian promoters and the Stray Cats themselves that it would be a worthwhile trip and that there are a lot of fans down here that would make the effort if shows were booked. If you would like to see the Stray Cats Strut their stuff Down Under, please add your name to this petition.

Do I have a Martin Guitar with some history for sale!
My father, Dick Penner wrote the song "Ooby Dooby" which was Roy Orbisons' first big hit for Sun Records (and which he had to wait four more years to have a bigger hit.) Creedence Clearwater also recorded it on their Cosmos Factory album as did Jerry Lee Lewis. I have pictures of my father at age 21 holding this Martin 000-18 serial number 136564 which is a 1953 3/4 size guitar with original case. This guitar has my father's original nameplate on it that says "Dick Penner-Dallas" where he played on the Big D Jamboree and where he met Roy Orbison who heard the song that he later recorded "which helped to solidify Sun Records' reputation as the purveyor of the new music." The guitar is in good condition with some pick scratches on the front, but none that go through the wood. The back is absolutely beautiful with only minor buckle scratches that can easily be removed.
I will probably e-mail hundreds of persons and companies including Sun Records, RECORD COMPANIES, PRODUCERS, AND PUBLICISTS, Sam Phillips (who my dad recorded for) or his family if he is not still alive, RCA which also covered my fathers tunes, Rock History Hall of Fame museums, and vintage guitar buyers who will bid on this rare piece of musical history.
I will only accept cash and cashier check bid until June 30th on this instrument and will sell it to the highest bidding person or company that will 1)most likely display it in a proper place so that it's musical heritage can be appreciated. 2) I also have my own CD's/songs I have recorded, recordings of my father and I singing and playing, and my fathers music re-mastered to CD for sale. 3) I am also most likely to sell to a person or company who is willing and in a position to let me have a shot with my own music at making my own dent in music history( i.e. legitimate recording contract) just as my father had back in the 1950's. This guitar and all CD and written history will be auctioned to the highest written bidder AND/OR THE PERSON WITH THE MOST LUCRATIVE RECORDING CONTRACT on July 1st, 2004.
Thank you for your time and interest and I have had MY SONGS appraised several times already. I WRITE CONTEMPORARY COUNTRY CHRISTIAN, SOFT AND HARD ROCK ETC AND HAVE HAD EXTREMELY POSITIVE AIR TEST MARKETING FROM LOGGINS PROMOTIONS/BACKSTAGE ENTERTAINMENT, JERRY GLIDWELL WITH G MAJOR MUSIC, NANCY BAXENDALE WITH TEXAS ROSE RECORDS, AND MONROE FIELDS (WHO WROTE MANY OF GEORGE JONES SONGS) VIA E-MAILS. Please issue bids, CONTRACT OFFERS (ONCE YOU'VE HEARD MY CDS OF COURSE), or questions to gregpenner3@juno.com or call (865) 522-5229 . I COME AS A PACKAGE DEAL OR SEPERATE. FOR CD AND/OR PICTURES OF GUITAR, PLEASE SEND A SELF-ADDRESSED STAMPED ENVELOPE TO MY OFFICE AT GREG PENNER 3201 CHESTNUT VIEW DR. KNOXVILLE TN 37921-1206 SERIOUS INQUIRIES ONLY.
Sincerely, Greg Penner, B.A., M.S. W. - son of Dick Penner born 1936. Allan Richard Penner Chicago Illinois.

I read the interview of Narvel Felts and he was talking about Ray Smith who was popular back in the 50's and 60's.I know that he did some songs that sounded a lot like Dean Martin and Elvis and also Jerry Lee Lewis. Also, he did several of his own style. The ones I like the most are "Rockin Little Angel", "Robbing The Cradle". and "Traveling Salesman". Of course, all of the songs are really neat songs. I read where it stated that he took his own life and people were remembering him and his songs. Just recently, Ray Smith gave me a CD that has his songs recorded on it and I play it all of the time. Ray Smith is married to my niece who is 63 years old. Ray is a few years older than her.He looks just like those pictures on the rockabilly site, except for now being an older version of Ray Smith. He has only been married to her for a few years. I e-mailed the person that did the interview with Narvel Felts but so far, I haven't had a reply from him.  I'll be glad to hear from you on the subject of Ray Smith. I have been searching for the name of a song that Billy C. Craddock sang on one of his albums in the 70's. The words went something like this: " Gypsy woman bring your crystal ball and sit with me awhile, seems like lately at the bottom of this glass of wine I can see her smile". I have searched everything I can think of. I would appreciate any help I can get. Thanks, Maddy - littlemaddydean@aol.com

I was fortunate to meet Ronnie Dawson back in 1991 at the Rockabilly Roundup held at Santa Barbara, California. I played on stage with him once doing two numbers. What I liked about Ronnie was the fact that he never worried about how good musically,  you might be, or might not be. Ronnie was the kind of guy that was honest, and called the shots as he saw them. He taught me that you can be a good musician on stage, without being too serious, and he told me to smile at your audience, to let them know you're having a good time, and that it is a joy to perform for them. Ronnie had more energy and more singing ability than singers and players half his age. Ronnie had the knack of striking a note, or chord on a guitar and get more out of it than any other players I knew at the time. I'll always remember Ronnie singing 'Rockin' Bones'. I saw him live when he did this song, and the sound stays with me to this day. He's still got rhythm in his rockin' bones. God bless you, Ronnie, where ever you may be! Proud neice of a Peachtree Cowboy seeking info on my late uncle, Steve Keith. He was the blind piano man for them in the fifties to the early '60's,when the Covered Wagon was still standing. All the 9 siblings of his generation are gone now, and I've taken it on myself to find out about as much of their history as possible. The times conincide with Jack Reed's time in the band ("There Goes My Everything"). Or if there are other sources I could try to find out more about the whole band. All the departed brothers and sisters deserve to be rememebered. They were po' folks that came down from the N. GA Mountains, and they all made something of themselves. I would love it if the too few cousins to know more about their heritage. This ol' Gawja girl would be mighty beholden to any one who may have some clues, it would mean a lot to our family. Howdy Amigos! It's with a heavy heart that I relate the passing of RAY CONDO. The world lost a truly great Canadian rocker last Wednesday night. He was only 54 years old. I was really looking forward to seeing him at next year's big Green Bay event. Another hole in our collective rock n' roll heart. Thank goodness we have so much great music from him to make us happy and remind us of his crazy humor and limitless energy. He performed with such a joyful and manic glee, you just couldn't help getting swallowed up in the maelstrom of hopped-up jazz and swinging western boogie. We'll pay tribute to him with a big set of favorites tonight. On the brighter side, we can still honor and revere those original rockers who are still with us. Case in point: GENE SUMMERS! The dean of the "School Of Rock & Roll" has a brand new album out on Enviken Records and it's a doozy! Great songs + excellent back-up musicians + top shelf authentic production = an essential modern rockabilly recording! He blew the doors off the room at VLV last week and he's fixing to blow the roof off with his "DO RIGHT DADDY" disc. Dig it right now!
CARLOS MEJUTO's latest solo project still has a warm spot in my CD player. Amazing song selection and inspired arrangements on "I Ain't Givin' Up Nothin'" on the Foot Tapping record label.
Gratzi' to DALE ROCKA & THE VOLCANOS for their "too cool for school" 3-song 7" EP, "You Keep My Love Handy". Look for it on the Impero record label and give it a twirl! Another debut tonight with the RIZLAS tough 6-track CD "Real Deal" on Thousand records. Amazing Japanese rockin' act with amped up attitude and talent to spare.
The ROY KAY TRIO is still coming on strong with their new album "Knockin' Em Back" on Lur Liner records. Another K.O. from this boppin' billy band from the great American Northwest (Seattle, WA!). Don't duck when this one is playing!

A rootin'-tootin', ten-gallon howdy to you, good rockin' folks! I just thought I'd take it upon my silly roguish self to let y'all know the brand spankin' new issue of "Rockabilly Revue" (#7) has hit the streets, and it's one heck of a jim-dandy spectacle if ever I've seen one. This particular exciting and entertaining issue has the always precious Sheree interviewing the dazzling Queen of Rockabilly herself, Ms. Wanda Jackson. There's also an enlightening interview with Bernard Lansky ("Clothier to the King"), and Sheree's mom Carole offers up a magnificent slab of an article about one of the most rockin' cats on today's scene, Jesse Al Tuscan. And, of course, the rowdy, adjective-strewn reviews written by that Texas-bred Roger scoundrel once again close out the mag. Y'all assuredly don't wanna miss out on this one, friends! It's a hoot of a read from cover to cover, so be sure to drop rockin' kitten Sheree a line at homersm2001@yahoo.com and order your copy today before they sell out faster than a stack of flapjacks at a Sunday morning social. Y'all take good care, and keep on rockin' with a fury. Roger - RockNRollRogue@aol.com

I am a musician and songwriter in Nashville. I am from Dallas and though I was a bit younger, knew Scotty McKay and Ronnie Dawson and many many more of those cats quite well.  I just found out Scotty died in 1991. Do you have any details of his death? I am sure it was amphetamine related as he lived for that stuff, but where did he die, etc? And Ronnie apparently just died recently of cancer. He was such a sweet guy. Anyway, anything you could tell me would be appreciated. Regards, Wally Wilson - misterwally@comcast.net

Did you hear that Niki Sullivan, Buddy Holly's rhythm guitarist in the Crickets has passed away? He died in his sleep on April 6th. Here is the news brief I found concerning Niki.
Rhythm guitarist and backup singer for Buddy Holly's group The Crickets, who is heard on such classic hits as "That'll Be The Day", "Oh Boy!" and "Maybe Baby", who left the group shortly before Holly went solo in 1958 and who had a brief solo recording career for Dot records in 1958, died April 6 in his sleep at his home in Sugar Creek, Missouri at the age of 66.
I wanted to share this with other Rockabilly fans. Rest in peace Niki. Mark Schierbecker, Snellville, GA - mschierb@bellsouth.net

Hi, Everybody! Just wanted to let all the rockabilly fans in the Iowa/midwest area know about a couple rockabilly shows I've got coming up to promote the release of an album I cut at Sun Recording Studio in Memphis.. same place the great rockabilly legends got their start. Friday, April 16th will be at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa and Saturday April 17th will be at the Palace Theatre - Adventureland, in Altoona, Iowa. Playing there with me will be The Dempseys, who are an absolutely amazing rockabilly group from Memphis. Tickets are just $15, and the net proceeds are going to the Hemophilia Federation Of America. If you like traditional southern rockabilly style songs, and would like to party with us for a good cause, we'd love to have you there! Bob Wills' great 1940 recording of "New San Antonio Rose" has been selected to be added to the Library of Congress registry of historic sound. Patsy Cline's "Crazy" and Johnny Cash's 1968 concert at Folsum Prison were also included, being the only country songs in the 50 selected. It is gratifying to see these truly great artists so honored. The complete list can be found at GRAMMY.com. Nominations from the public are accepted, so maybe those of us who love traditional country should start letting them know what songs we would like to see honored. John Gill - jwg3@texnetworking.com

CAVALIERS' WEST TEXAS MUSIC HALL OF FAME SHOW UPDATE - In order to keep the May 9th Music Concert (as originally planned) "Family Oriented" the venue has been  changed and will now be held at the historical San Angelo (beautiful renovated) Municipal Auditorium. No biting of nails getting ulcers worrying about unpredictable Texas weather nor second hand smoke. The doors will open at 1PM for the public. The back door will be opened Sunday morning in order for  the P.A. and band equipment to be unloaded. During the hours of 1PM-10PM Sunday people will be able to come and go at will with no restrictions after receiving a stamp on their hand.  This auditorium, with a large stage, is where Elvis performed January 5th & February 17th 1955. According to Tony (events coordinator) all of the bands, performers/talent contest entrants were still on board for this special event along with the mayor and other special guests. Last report we had from Casey Monahan (Texas Music Office Austin) was he just  might be there. We are also happy to announce Mr. Jerry Naylor will be flying in from Oregon meeting old friends plus performing.
The entrance donations have been reduced to only $5.00/$2.00 in order to help large families. One of our musician (steel player) friends here in Ft. Worth called last week asking if we knew Weldon Myrick? I told him we have never met him in person but he was planning on performing May 9th in SA in which he replied he heard him at the Steel Guitar Show in Dallas, along with many other legendary steel players including Tom Brumley and Ralph Mooney and commented "what a smooth player he was".   www.westexmusichof.com for the latest up-date on May 9th.  - Sid Holmes - sid@westexmusichof.com

Hi Cats. As a rockin' DJ based up here in the North East UK i'm finding it increasingly difficult (and frustrating) to branch out to other parts of the UK, or even abroad. I'm willing to travel any distance for the right gig but it still seems Promoters want to stick to the "well known" names on the scene. Does anyone know of any promoters or agencies that deal with DJs? the stuff i play ranges from Original Rock & Roll, Doo wop & Jive to Hardcore Rockabilly (both modern & original). if you are a promoter and are looking for some fresh blood then get in touch and see what we can do! I am a rock-a-billy!I love it, I live by it. The first music I can remember is Elvis, Buddy, Chuck and Jerry Lee, all thanks to my mother. She always played her old 45`s while doing her daily routine. This awesome music was a part of my life ever since I can remember. As the years went on,though, I found myself more and more removed from rock-a-billy and more drawn to punk and metal music. I guess it was around '81 or so when it all came back to me. I was watching Much Music (the Canadian equivlent to MTV) and something wild happened. The wild thing I saw was called the Stray Cats. They completely blew me away, and all my old memories came flooding back. I was once again introduced to rock-a-billy and I loved it even more than ever. In an interview with Brian Setzer, he named off his major influences in music. Of corse he named off Elvis, Buddy, Chuck and Jerry Lee, but he had also named off two guys (as his biggest influences) that I really hadn`t heard of before. The two guys were Eddie Cochran and Gene Vincent. My mother died a few months before this, so I couldn't ask her about these two mystery men of the rock-a-billy past. She had left me with all of her old records, but there wasn't one to be found of these two artists. I phoned my uncle, who is a professional musician, to ask him what he knew about these two dudes and he laughed when I told him about not finding them in my mother's collection. He went on to tell me how he used to borrow those old 45`s so often from my mother`s collection, that she finally said, just take them and get out of my hair! He told me that Gene Vincent was the greatest and that I should come and pick up the old records to hear for myself.I went over immediately,my uncle had already gotten the old relics out and was dusting them off as I arrived. We listened to them all night long and I have to say, there was a new Gene Vincent fan born on that day! Since then, Gene Vincent has moved to the top of my list and he doesn`t stand a chance of having dust collect on him ever again!! (at least not in my world). tom szabo, toronto ontario canada - jacks4@rogers.com

I'm tryin to find an old student of mine....who grew up in Nashville music....i cant be sure of how his name is spelled....but its something like Lynn Poulsen....his dad was also i Nashville music....an old timer.... a great one too....one of the most popular ones in the "in" group of old time performers....one who just loved the music...and was NOT after the fame game.....Lynn worked for several years at some country western store that had its own radio station in Nashville...but i dont know the name of the place.... i desperately need to find him. any help will be great. They used to live originally in Molalla Oregon but moved without forward addresses...last word was that Vern was on the coast of Oregon somewhere and Lynn was in Nashville tryin to get into the big time music scene...as a rockabilly performer. i taught Lynn martial arts for about five years in Molalla, Oregon. i can be reached at 503 631 4819 anytimeor at adamwoodsnwonder@aol.com - thank you, francis

Hi Rockabilly Artists and Fans, Let's hear it for Nol and Wies Voorst! When one of us rockabillies are in need Nol is right there in The Netherlands to give moral support and to lend a helping hand. He is one of the most knowledgeable persons in the rockabilly music field today. I encourage all of you to go to the wrc@blueridgeopry.com news section, scroll down and view Nol and his blessed wife. It was an honor for me to honor he and Wies with a song entitled, "The Man From Maastricht". Nol, is my greatest fan of all times and he is certainly in my opinion, the greatest rockabilly fan; therefore he is deserving of the title, "The Rockabilly Man".
Thank you "Eagle", of the Blue Ridge Opry for being the leader and the first pioneer member of "The World Rockabilly Coalition". You will certainly make us all fly higher! Roy Cost, 2108 Arkansas Avenue, Conway, Arkansas 72034 - "Rockabilly Baby" - themusicfactory@conwaycorp.net

If you are a true Hasil Adkins fan, that says something very special about you. You may not have thought about it before, but what you yourself value cannot help but reveal who you are as a person. Hasil Adkins is blessed with many wonderful talents, and your ability to appreciate them says much about you. First of all, you are likely to be an individual who values beauty and harmony in your life and seeks it out whenever you can. You probably get along well with other people (except certain types) because of this fact - or at least you try your best to do so.
You value not only beauty, however, but possess the sensitivity to appreciate subtle nuances of feeling and emotion - such as those you hear in Hasil's unique style. And with your mind for subtle nuances, you may have a great sense of humor and are quick to see and appreciate the little foibles of human nature.
Your preference for Hasil's singing style shows you value sincerity and are probably a sincere person yourself. It's also quite likely you are sentimental and warmly emotional - if not openly so, at least in your private feelings You may even at times be moved to a kind of spiritual awe by the brilliance of sound, style, and powerful emotional delivery that God has granted this rockabilly legend.
Chances are, you are less apt than most to be brash, cynical, or superficial - even if you may appear so at times to cover up your more sensitive side. It's a cinch too that you are loyal to those you like and may be quite an individualist. You're not easily influenced by trends in music or what the media "says" you should like. You stick to your preferences and respect others who do the same. You sound like you could be quite a nice person to know. Joe MonDragen - LAsbs@hispindin.net

Had you ever heard of "Democrat Hot Springs" in the canyon between Lake Isabella and Bakersfield? During the 70's it was owned by Mr. Oscar Whittington, and the place jumped all year long inside the main lodge bar (winter time), and on a huge outdoor patio in the summer. My Dad (Frankie Lemon) was Oscar's drummer. Bill Woods, Jerry Ward, Tommy Collins, Big Bill Smith, Howdy Glen, Mayf Nutter, Red Simpson Sammi Smith & Little David Wilkins were all regulars there just about every weekend. It was a great time in my teenage years to be directly involved (via my Dad) with all those terriffic people and that great country music! Merle Haggard would come down there now & again, as his home used to be right at the end of the canyon (toward Bakersfield). If anyone remembers Democrat Hot Springs Let me know! Thanks again! - Ted Lemon (760) 499-9111 e-mail: soundwavesdj@hotmail.com
