Deral and Charley when they, along with Floyd Andrews (another singer recorded on Hu-se-Co),
opened for a Grand Ole Opry package show in Oklahoma City at the Municipal Auditorium in 1956.
This is the only picture of them. That year they also appeared with a package show in
Shawnee Oklahoma. Some of the stars on those shows were Hank Lockland, Sonny James, Ernest Tubb,
Jerry Lee Lewis, Hawkshaw Hawkins, Jean Shepard, Johnny and Jack and Kitty Wells, Webb Pierce,
Faron Young, Carl Smith, Johnny Cash and Jimmy Dickens.
Ernest Tubb invited us to come and be on his Midnight Jamboree, which I did in 1959.
We were also playing on a local radio show with several others long about that time.
The Uncle Willy Show. We knew Wanda Jackson and Norma Jean. Norma Jean and
Herman Poeling had a radio show Saturday evening on KLPR AM radio and we were a guest once.
The owner of Hu-se-co records was Odell Johnson of Hobart Oklahoma. He signed and recorded
several singers in the OKC area. The record was recorded in Gene Sullivan's recording studio
in Capitol Hill (a suburb of OKC). We recorded "Sundown Boogie" and "Winter In Your Heart".
I am sorry to say I do not have a copy of the record.
I understand that "Sundown Boogie" was redone and is on a White Label WLP 8819 along with a
lot of others. I wrote Lonnie Ratliff about that and he said he thought he had found me one
in Germany and was waiting on an answer to a email he had sent them.
My wife and I are currently playing the Nursing Home and Senior Citizens circuit in our area.
Here is our our website:
I have been playing and singing since 1951 when I was in high school.
I love the old traditional country and gospel music. I gave up my quest for a music career
and got married in 1960.
