VIVA LAS VEGAS PIX
What do you do when your column is due, you don't feel like spending a lot of time creating it, y'know the summer is here, the pool is calling ya, and you have a ton of pix from Viva Las Vegas???
Well, hell's bells, you fudge them into your column, that's what!
(As far as "not spending a lot of time", it took me more time selecting the pix and scanning them, then it would have taken me just writing a "normal" column!!! So much for being a wise guy, much less a weiser guy.....)
I did consider doing a review of VIVA LAS VEGAS 2000, but this would be an impossible task for me, taking weeks of time, such was both the quantity and quality of the acts performing there. There were four stages where you could have seen bands: the main room upstairs, the ballroom downstairs, the East Lounge, and last but not least, the West Lounge where Bob Timmers and the Rockabilly Hall Of Fame featured an array of Rockabilly Legends, and hot new upcoming acts from all over the world!!
I was proud to have had 5 ROLLIN' ROCK acts perform ar Viva las Vegas in a stellar and often outrageous way:
ALVIS WAYNE, DRAGSTRIP77, RIP CARSON & THE TWILIGHT TRIO, THE CHOP TOPS, and MACK STEVENS who set his pompadour on fire!!
Many positive reviews have been running thru the Internet extolling my boys, with the occasional shocked comment at Mack Stevens' pyrotechnics coming from a few ladies who cannot seem to cut loose!!!
Nearly all the other artists were excellent, and , I repeat, I would not know where to begin to praise them all, so I'll just leave it to others.
So here are the pix, starting first with The International Rockabilly Rebels Meet & Greet at my house, Rancho Ronny, Wednesday afternoon, the day before Viva Las Vegas:
Always Rollin' The Rock,
Two wide angle views of Rancho Ronny's Meet & Greet 2000, the Club Med for Rockabilly Rebels from all over the world!!
Another Rancho Ronny, Rockabilly Club Med photo.
Aussie Rockabillies are taking over Las Vegas!!!
Rockabilly Hall Of Famers: Rod Pyke (front), Dave Hermsen, Joe "Legjaw" Wajgel, Bob Timmers and Blue Cap original drummer Dickie Harrell.
The exceptionally exciting Big Barn Combo from Detroit delighting the audience!!
Wild Wax Combo from Denmark are a killer band. My paisano pal Paul, not in pic, is playing a smokin' guitar solo!
Sean Mencher of High Noon is thrilling the cats!! Kevin, also of High Noon, is playing bass (not in pic).
Shelby, Gary and Shelby again, of the CHOP TOPS, are rockin' up a storm. Dylan is on bass (not in pic). They'll be recording for Rollin' Rock at the end of May.
TOP: The Casey Sisters are so good that Tail Records is flying them over to Sweden to record an album!!
BOTTOM: Sadie is watching the jamming.
TOP: Anthony Minca (cousin), Jeremy Weiser, and Benny Weiser standing in front of the Dragstrip77 flag: the next generation of Rockabilly Rebels!!
BOTTOM: Dickie Harrrell and Rockin' Ronny Weiser posing in front of Gene Vincent's original Black Leather suit as seen on his album covers.
Rockin' Ronny and KPIG dj Uncle Sherman. Uncle Sherman was arguably the only American disc jockey who played Rollin' Rock Records in the 1970s!
